Spring Nature and Gardening in Prospect Park!
We pick kids up from school!
Kids will discover rare plants and amazing animals in Prospect Park! We will visit the highest point in Prospect Park and kids will learn to make bird calls as they observe birds return for the great spring migration over our Atlantic flyway. We learn the difference between the snapping turtle, the painted turtle and the invasive red-eared slider. We identify invasive plants which are edible and others which are poisonous. Kids will be able to tell the difference between the helpful earth worm and the destructive jumping worm. We use invasive plants to make mason bee homes and musical instruments. As the weather warms, kids will visit nearby community gardens and plant and bring home both edible and air-cleaning plants.

WHAT TO WEAR
All kids must wear comfortable shoes which allow them to run, hop, climb, skip and explore. NO SANDALS. Please dress for easy and comfortable outdoor movement. We will sometimes be walking long distances as we learn about the last forest in Brooklyn. We will be in the elements so make sure kids have weather appropriate attire- rain boots, rain coats, comfy sneakers, etc… and expect that they may get dirty in the park.
TRUST
We foster social-emotional learning and practice gentle communication. Our focus is on providing kiddos fun, safe, enriching environments where they can explore and learn in nature.
WHO WE ARE
We pay our staff a THRIVING wage, include generous scholarships, and hire from the communities we work in. We strive to be economically, racially and LGBTQI diverse. When you sign your child up for our Brooklyn Seeds nature program, you are supporting a community.
SCHOLARSHIPS
We offer scholarships on the registration form. If you’re not sure you qualify for a scholarship, please know that we need no explanation. But if you’ve applied for a scholarship in the past, we do need to open up the opportunity for other families. We ask that you give what you can, when you can. And take what you need when you need it. We are a community.
PICKUP AT YOUR SCHOOL
If we do not meet the minimum threshold for pickup at your school (3 kids) we cannot pick up. If your child has a buddy or you’re on a class or school parent group, please share our information so parents know about our wonderful nature classes in the park. We do not advertise. The other option is for you to drop your child (and/or child and a buddy) off to us at the park.
Cost includes gear kids will be using to explore nature: binoculars, monoculars, magnifying glasses, maps, art supplies, etc.
