After-School Nature and Gardening at 305/A&L United - OUTDOORS THURSDAYS!
Registration is now open!
Registration is now open!
Brooklyn Seeds on Thursdays!
Kids will discover rare plants and amazing animals in Von King Park! We learn to make bird calls as we observe birds return for the great spring migration and other birds like crows, robins and red-tailed hawks which over-winter in Brooklyn. We identify invasive plants which are edible and others which are poisonous. Kids will be able to tell the difference between the helpful earthworm and the destructive jumping worm. We use invasive plants to make mason bee homes and musical instruments. As the weather warms, kids will visit nearby community gardens and plant and bring home both edible and air-cleaning plants.
We intend to be outdoors as much and as often as possible, including drizzly, windy, and hot days. When there is inclement weather or unprecedented events (thunderstorms, heavy snowstorms, really aggressive crow behavior), we will be gardening indoors in a United classroom. We have maintained a scholarship fund for almost 25% of gardening students at United. We can only do that if you give! No explanation is needed if you can't afford the class. All you have to do is choose the scholarship option on the website.

SCHOLARSHIP
$0-$480 cost per child for families who need extra love. No explanation needed.

In last year's program, more than 25% of our gardeners paid nothing. Thank you to the incredibly generous families who made this possible.
BAD WEATHER
*** We will nature rain or shine or SNOW! Kids must be dressed for ALL weather! But if there is torrential rain and/or dangerous weather, we will garden indoors in a United classroom.
EQUITY:
Equity requires effort. We cannot afford to give gardening scholarships without your help. Here’s how you can help:
Cost to pay for your child (Monarchs) and support another family: $700
Cost for your child AND another child in Monarch class to attend free: $960
Brooklyn Seeds on Wednesday:
Kids will discover rare plants and amazing animals in Prospect Park! We will visit the highest point in Prospect Park and kids will learn to make bird calls as they observe birds return for the great spring migration over our Atlantic flyway. We learn the difference between the snapping turtle, the painted turtle and the invasive red-eared slider. We identify invasive plants which are edible and others which are poisonous. Kids will be able to tell the difference between the helpful earth worm and the destructive jumping worm. We use invasive plants to make mason bee homes and musical instruments. As the weather warms, kids will visit nearby community gardens and plant and bring home both edible and air-cleaning plants.

And take what you need when you need it. We are a community.
