Adopt a Tree!
Trees are the biggest plants on earth. We need trees. And trees need us. Many city trees are often ignored or abused, and often suffer for lack of water and care. If these trees were in forests, they would be fine. But city life is hard on trees. Cars ram into tree branches, breaking and tearing them, often causing trees to have infections. Hundreds of dogs repeatedly pee in tree beds, and the acid in dog pee can kill a tree. People trample on tree soil, making the soil as hard as cement. So these poor city trees can’t even absorb rain water, and the rain often flows right off their hard soil right into streets and drains. Trees also suffer when de-icing salt is sprayed into streets in winter, and ends up coating tree beds, sucking much-needed water out of trees. Few people water city trees, cultivate their soil, plant flowers under them, or feed them compost.
