SPRING INTO NATURE!
Explore the treasures of Prospect Park! Kids will hike to and learn about Duck Island, Binnen Waterfalls, Juneteenth Way and the hidden Quaker cemetery! We hike to a different location in the park every week and explore the trails less traveled to the Peninsula, the hidden trails of the Ravine, visit every waterfall and learn about the history of the Wellhouse.
We also ask: How many wood ducks can a wood duck have? We search for and count her ducklings! One wood duck had 18 ducklings two years ago and 14 the previous year! We look for rocks where dragonflies climb out to take their first flight after spending years in water! Can we get a Junco to eat cracked corn out of our hands? And we try to answer the age-old question: Are squirrels smarter than chipmunks? We don’t always know what we’ll find, but every week is an exploration of the park’s mysterious places, animals, fungi and plants.
GRADES: K - 5.
Older kids will have more challenging activities. We will keep classroom buddies, siblings and similar age groups together. Parents and babysitters also have the option of dropping children off at the park.
TRANSPORTATION:
We pick kids up from schools and school bus stops and walk them to Prospect Park. Parents also have the option of dropping kids off to Prospect Park.
